You might be aware of the recent demonstrations on campuses, particularly in the United States, related to the conflict in Gaza. SAF monitors conditions on campus for student security, helping them understand how to remain safe and out of trouble while abroad. We wanted to take a moment to share the proactive measures SAF continues to take to support our students during this time.

SAF remains in active communication with all of our students. They are advised to steer clear of areas affected by protests to stay out of harm’s way and maintain their legal and academic status with their host university.

We’ve emphasized the importance of following guidance from university officials and local law enforcement, including subscribing to campus emergency notifications to receive urgent updates. We have also reminded students that the campus international or language program offices are available for support and assistance. We've provided reliable resources to help students understand the context of events taking place.

SAF has expanded our virtual office hours for students to easily connect with our U.S.-based team with any questions. Furthermore, for students at campuses that have particularly impacted, (such as UCLA), we've arranged special office hours to answer any student questions about the unique circumstances on campus.

While the future conditions are uncertain, many analysts suggest that demonstrations are likely to subside in the run-up to final exams and following graduation ceremonies this spring. This is expected as campuses transition into the summer term and many full-time students depart for the summer.

Rest assured that in the coming weeks and months, SAF will closely monitor the situation and remain in regular communication with our hosting university partners. We remain committed to global student mobility and our students’ well-being. We will share pertinent information with both our students and partner universities as conditions evolve.
